As I stare at my computer screen, I wonder what I can possibly say about Thanksgiving that hasn’t been said a hundred times over. Then I pause.
I see the word broken into: Thanks. Giving.
The Psalms include numerous passages encouraging us to give thanks to the Lord … to His Holy Name, for His goodness, and for His mercy. When we consider that men penned the psalms under the power of the Holy Spirit, we realize the importance God places upon a thankful heart. It is actually God saying: GIVE THANKS.
Today and in the coming weeks, instead of allowing the pressures of life, the busyness of preparation, or even the loneliness of the holidays dictate your life, choose to keep a thankful heart toward the One who saved your soul.
Why? Not because it’s the holiday season. Give thanks because God has asked you to do so, and you belong to Him. Is there any better reason?
“Surely the righteous shall give thanks to Your name; The upright shall dwell in Your presence. Psalm 140:13.”
